Hey, it's the summer "Dig Into Reading!" version of Pre/K story time, and we're still rockin' the best of our picture book collection. Check it out!
story and illustrations by Kevin Henkes
If Henkes has ever produced a sub-par picture book I have yet to see it. This is one of his best, and it provided the inspiration for today's craft project.
story by Sarah Stewart
illustrations by David Small
Husband-and-wife Small and Stewart always produce books that are touching, funny, and engaging. This Depression-era epistolary story of a country girl who goes to live with her baker uncle in the big city is a charmer from start to finish.
story and illustrations by Lane Smith
Better-known for his hilarious collaborations with Jon Scieszka, like The Stinky Cheese Man and John, Paul, Ben, and George, Smith goes gentle with this story of a green-thumbed gardener told through the eyes of his loving grandson. The artwork is not to be missed.
Our art project today was to design a dream garden on paper, both above and beneath the ground, using markers and foam insects, and it produced some beautiful, creative, and zany results.
